“A major London University was looking to streamline the production of their ‘mission critical’ Exam Paper printing; having identified a number of flaws in current process, that had been in place for a number of years.

Historically printed hard copies of the exam papers were provided, which in turn were scanned into an electronic format for mass production. 

Inevitably, this created logistical concerns regarding security and accuracy, not to mention the impact on print quality, due to ‘second generation’ print production.

This was of particular concern with the production of medical exam papers whereby the quality of the images was of paramount importance.

In collaboration with B&H Digital and the University Exam Co-Ordinator a new process was created enabling Academic Faculties to submit all Exam papers in an electronic format, using a secure and bespoke web to print production system.

Working in partnership, the production process was further extended to include a dedicated printed cover sheet for each exam paper, providing instant identification; individual shrink wrapping, providing tamper proof security; and a system of bespoke box labelling for distribution to two exam venues, broken down into morning and afternoon sessions, for simplified distribution by the exam invigilators.

All of the exam papers were printed using market leading digital production technology, finished and stored at our secure site in Huntingdon. 

Throughout the production process we were liable to ‘on the spot’ inspection by the client to ensure all agreed production and security processes were being meticulously followed, prior to despatch.

Direct liaison between our Operations Team and the University Exam Team, ensured 100% success in delivery of a mission critical campaign; a campaign comprising of production in excess of:

  • 1,350 different exam papers
  • 600,000 mono prints
  • 295,000 colour prints
  • 90,000 stapled documents
  • Secure delivery of 450 boxes

Following a review of this new service, feedback from the Exam Coordinator was extremely positive.  Not only has B&H provided a more streamlined and efficient service, we have also ensured tamper proof security, noticeably improved print quality, a significant logistical improvement with our delivery; all of which could be measured with a reduction in wastage and proven cost savings.”

Is there a guide for preparing print ready files?

However, below is a quick checklist to run through before files are submitted –

- Checked the paper size is right?
- Set your colours to CMYK?
- Made sure your images are 300dpi?
- Added a 3mm bleed and crop marks?
- Embedded your fonts?
